Up for sale is a mechanically rock-solid piece of American firearms history: a Colt New Service large-frame double-action revolver. Confirmed by Colt records to have been manufactured in 1909, this transition-era powerhouse features the highly desirable, classic combination of a 7.5-inch barrel chambered in the legendary .45 Colt cartridge.

This revolver was built to work and has the character to prove it. At some point in its life, it was completely refurbished to arrest historical corrosion, resulting in a durable, black Parkerized finish over widespread honest pitting. While the finish is non-factory, it gives the gun a rugged, military-surplus aesthetic and provides excellent weather and rust resistance.

Key Details & Markings:

• Frame & Year: 1909 Manufacture (Serial #21414)
• Barrel:5-inch with period-correct top patent lines (ending in July 4, 1905) and left-side New Service .45 COLT stamp.
• Markings: Features the rare “Colt in Stylized C” frame logo (used briefly from 1905–1909). Please note that this logo is partially worn/faint, likely a result of the surface preparation during the refinishing process. The factory “VP” triangle proof and inspector stamp “3” are still visible on the trigger guard.
• Grips: Original, intact black checkered hard-rubber factory Gutta-Percha grips featuring the period-correct, molded “COLT” lettering at the top.
• Condition: Mechanically sound with tight lockup and excellent timing. It is a fantastic, robust “shooter” or wilderness sidearm.
• Notes: The bottom of the grip frame features the original factory-threaded hole for a lanyard loop, though the swivel loop itself is currently missing.

If you are looking for a pristine museum safe-queen, this isn’t it. But if you want an absolute tank of a vintage .45 Colt that you can actually take to the range or carry in the woods without worrying about scratching a high-polished finish, this 1909 New Service is exactly what you need.
